While I am certainly not one to stray away from a fashion trend, I am more skeptical of health-related fads. Let’s face it, this industry is infamous for circulating buzzwords and hype around methods that might not actually be beneficial at all. Amid this cacophony, it can be challenging to discern which wellness trends are truly worth your time (and money). If there are any wellness trends that piques my interest, you can bet that I pour hours of research into the science behind it before I actually go and try it out for myself. While 2023 has been a hectic year for me all around, I am happy to say there are quite a few health discoveries I made that I can happily vouch for. From regularly scheduled acupuncture sessions to tuning into my sleep patterns, these 6 wellness trends have my official stamp of approval.

1. Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy is an ancient Chinese healing art that has recently gained renewed attention – and it offers a range of therapeutic benefits. Cupping involves creating suction on the skin’s surface, which not only provides relief from pain but also enhances blood circulation, promoting detoxification. This natural therapy is an excellent option for individuals intrigued by the benefits of acupuncture but who may be wary of needles. One of the remarkable aspects of cupping is that it can be easily practiced at home, offering a self-care approach to health and well-being. Whether you seek relief from discomfort, improved circulation, or a gentle detox, cupping therapy is a time-honored practice worth exploring.

2. Acupuncture

Acupuncture, another ancient healing practice, has gained prominence recently due to its remarkable benefits. This time-tested technique effectively alleviates pain by stimulating the body’s release of endorphins, which act as natural pain relievers. However, the advantages of acupuncture go beyond pain management. It also aids in reducing stress and enhancing digestive health. Rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is a holistic approach that aims to rebalance the body’s qi, or vital energy, which in turn promotes overall well-being. Whether you’re seeking relief from aches, emotional balance, or a holistic approach to health, acupuncture provides an avenue for comprehensive wellness.

3. Facial Yoga

Also known as facial gymnastics, facial yoga is the practice of using certain movements to tone and strengthen the face and neck muscles. The goal of this wellness trend is to diminish signs of aging, such as wrinkles and sagging skin. What makes facial yoga particularly appealing is that all it demands is your time. On a daily basis, I will follow a quick YouTube routine to get my day going (here’s a good one). It may take 3-4 weeks to see optimal results, but if you stick to it, you won’t be disappointed.

4. IV Infusions

Intravenous (IV) therapy, a form of medical treatment, has gained recognition for its ability to efficiently deliver vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients directly into the bloodstream. This method is lauded for its rapid absorption and can be instrumental in enhancing overall hydration levels by providing the body with a swift infusion of fluids. It’s also used to administer a high dosage of vitamins and minerals, such as magnesium, calcium, and vitamin B6, which may be lacking in your diet or required in higher concentrations given certain health conditions. IV therapy is also known for its potential to boost energy levels, alleviate symptoms of fatigue, and support the immune system.

5. Contrast Bath Therapy

There has been a noteworthy surge in online searches related to ice baths and cold water immersion therapies. One of the practices that piqued my curiosity was contrast bath therapy. This process involves immersing the body, or a specific area, alternately in hot and cold water. This deliberate shift between hot and cold water prompts a natural bodily response – your blood vessels constrict and then expand, acting like a little pump for your circulation. It’s like giving your body a boost to keep your blood flowing smoothly. This technique proves to be effective in reducing swelling and easing muscle soreness, which makes it a great addition to your post-workout routine. It’s all about improving blood flow and aiding recovery.

6. Sleep Syncing Wellness Trend

To put it simply, sleep syncing is all about aligning your body’s natural circadian rhythm (internal clock) to your everyday routine. This alignment is immensely beneficial because your circadian rhythm governs a wide range of bodily functions, from digestion to hormonal activity. When your body is in sync with its natural circadian rhythm, achieving a peaceful night’s sleep becomes much easier.

Amongst all of the health trends I have experimented with this year, sleep syncing proved to be the hardest because of my constantly shifting schedule, but it’s easy once you get the hang of it. Record when you typically fall asleep and how long you sleep, and after a thorough analysis, define a designated sleep window and do your best to stick to it. After consistent syncing, you should experience better quality of rest and more wakefulness during the daytime.

7. Vitamin D

I have heard a lot of gurus talk about Vitamin D lately. This essential nutrient, primarily obtained through sunlight exposure, plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy bones, and offers other advantages, such as its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, instead of relying solely on dietary sources and sunlight, taking a daily Vitamin D supplement is considered beneficial. Aiming for a minimum of 600 IU is recommended to start experiencing the benefits kicking in.
