There are a ton of different ways to get into the spirit and celebrate Chinese New Year 2020 with dressing up being one of the easiest! My culture is filled to the brim with passed down traditions and beliefs and this includes the meaning behind certain colors. Red continues to be the dominant symbol in terms of luck, but there are also some other shades that also carry a huge significance. To celebrate Lunar New Year, you can adopt some of these beliefs into your outfit to summon your own wealth and joy. Here are some Chinese New Year inspired outfits I wore recently that you can copy this weekend.

Red Leather Coat

In Chinese culture, the color red symbolizes good fortune and happiness. Thus, why you’ll see many traditional Chinese decorations in this color – it’s also why we give packets of money in red envelopes and so forth. So why not take the leather trend and vamp it up a notch by adapting it in fiery red. This luxurious fabric is perfect to symbolize the wealth and luck that is sure to come your way this year. Undoubtedly, this outerwear choice will be the focal point of your look so be sure to play it up with a solid base and maybe some statement accessories.

Head-to-Toe Yellow

In addition to red, yellow is also just as significant. It is said that this is an imperial color that has come to represent power and prosperity, which makes sense as it is naturally such a happy shade. To get into the spirit, head-to-toe yellow is sure to bring you luck. Everything from a yellow coat, to yellow pants and yellow shoes work together to blend into one harmonious outfit.

With this color, you can either decide to go big or go more subtle. Key pieces, such as a pair of pants or tiered skirt look, killer and party ready. Or opt for something less obvious but still with a midas touch like gold metallic shoes or a studded belt.

Metallic Gold

No surprise here, but Chinese people also associate gold with wealth. Luckily, metallics are still very much in this season.

Red & Gold

This year, I am trying to summon all the good fortune I can get, so why not pair red and gold together? I am thinking double the luck the better the chances, right? A flashy, gold pencil skirt is the answer to all my Lunar New Year wishes. It is so incredibly luxe and pairs especially well with my more textured chunky red sweater. Take it up a notch with an equally gold handbag and some stilettos to complete your CNY look.
