Despite my unpleasant experiences in Mexico during my last trip, I managed to indulge in the things I enjoy most about the country. This includes the walkable streets, brightly colored walls and architecture, and access to fresh fruits. Our trip ended early, but I did squeeze in some photo sessions. And since I didn’t share them in my last post, I’ll be breaking down the looks I wore while vacationing in Tulum and Merida today.

Living in Lavender

White sandy grounds, vibrant colored walls, and lush green foliage are signs of Tulum! When I stumbled across this turquoise wall with the wings painting, I couldn’t resist this shot. It was perfect with this fluttery lavender dress from Nasty Gal. Sneakers were mandatory since it was so hot…I can’t imagine what the sand felt like!

Fruity Loom

The one thing I always enjoy most about Mexico are the fresh produce stands. Pineapple is so delicious on a hot tropical day so we stocked up during our time there. On another note, did you know that pineapple is excellent for supporting eye health – along with plenty of other benefits? It’s true – so keep snacking on them this summer!

My floral dress here is Alexis from Revolve. It’s part linen, which is my favorite fabric to wear on tropical trips. Nothing allows your skin to breathe like linen!

Paradise Found

Juice straight from the fruit is my idea of paradise found! How cute is this little blue-themed bar? Anyway, most of my outfits this time consisted of dresses. I can’t emphasize the heat enough… Loose, breathable dresses were the only way to survive. This one is by Free People. It features a shapeless drop waist cut with a slit. I paired it up with a pair of minimal sandals, which I’ve basically wore all summer at this point. Low block heels are the only way to go!

So you guys know I’m a huge outfit planner at this point. One of the things I always consider is what the environment will be like. When it comes to Mexico, I know there is no shortage of intricate tiling, bright wicker chairs, saturated buildings, and lots of tropical plants. Although color coordinating can be fun, sometimes, white is the best color to make an impact. The lace and ruffle details of this dress from Ulla Johnson is the perfect example! It’s light and breezy enough for the day but can be punched up for the evening with a glitzy clutch.

The Great Outdoors

Aside from my mosquito debacle in Merida, it was such a charming place to visit. It’s filled with archaeological sites if you’re into history, but there were two key features that I found most appealing. It’s a colonial city so the facades are candy colored and so fun for photos as seen here. Second, the local markets are a joy to explore. The boutique hotels are also pretty spectacular.

Forget subtle, I went all out with a ruffled, bold floral dress.

Poolside afternoons are one of my favorites! This was shot in one of the best boutique hotels in Merida, Rosas & Xocolate – really cool and hipster Mexican style. If you guys couldn’t guess what this outfit was on Instagram, it’s a mix of a swimsuit and cover up skirt. I love putting these kinds of matchy pieces together and the palm prints couldn’t have been more appropriate for this trip.

Into the Blue

This matchy matchy situation was not intended! It just so happens to be that my bold choice in colors matched up to what I discovered in Merida! I loved this Alice McCall dress but unfortunately, it sold out like hot cakes! I hope you enjoy one of the more affordable alternatives below.
