When it comes down to it, it is honestly not who or what you wear – it is how you wear it. I am a firm believer that if you have the confidence, you can pull absolutely anything off. That being said, there are some fairly common style mistakes that can make your outfit look much cheaper than it actually is. Which, I don’t know about you, but it’s something that I want to avoid at all costs. If you want to look more elevated and refined, I pulled together a list of common fashion mistakes to avoid so you can dress with better confidence!

Although, jewelry trends come and go, the one thing I always try to avoid is obvious costume jewelry. Accessories, no matter how big or small, it definitely leaves a lasting impact on your look as a whole. This is why it is important to stray away from cheap jewels and turning metals because they can easily cheapen your entire outfit in a blink of an eye. Instead, consider in investing in high-quality everyday pieces that will last you awhile.

Ill Fitting Clothes

Obviously, oversized clothing is a trend when it comes to boyfriend blazers and mom jeans, but not everything should be worn baggy. Certain garments just end up looking awkward and ill fitting if not tailored properly. This includes, but is not limited to, structured blazers, button up blouses, coats, and trousers.

Remember that proper fit, sleeve length, and hemline height goes a long way in ensuring you look eloquent and put together. To circumvent this, only purchase pieces that fit properly or invest in a go-to tailor.

Too Many Accessories

You know I am all about accentuating a look with accessories, but sometimes it can be too much of a good thing. Piling on an abundance of jewelry, along with items such as a flashy belt and statement heels, can be overwhelming on the eye. It is important to strike a balance and ensure no accessory is outweighing the other. For instance, if I am wearing a pair of particularly large chandelier earrings, I might skip out on any sort of statement necklace.

Lint

I have learned that one of fashion’s best keep tools is a lint roller. The last thing you want to do is step out of your house in your expensive designer dress, only to find out in dismay that lint and animal hair were clinging onto it all day. To avoid this fashion faux-pas, keep a lint roller on hand at all times or at least in your car. You’ll never know when it could come in handy!

Cheap Bag

I may be a handbag junkie, but the right bag truly makes a big difference in your overall outfit. Stay away from carrying anything that could potentially cheapen your look. This includes things like inexpensive patent leather, thin tote bags, and anything that is too oversized to the point where it draws a fine line between bag and suitcase. Rather, choose a well-made bag that enhances or adds a flair to your look.

Peaking Undergarments

Another common mistake that is easy to prevent is peaking undergarments. One of the largest culprits is the pesky bra strap exposed under a top.

Exposed undergarments can significantly cheapen your look because it takes away from your overall outfit. Investing in the right lingerie to impede this from happening is a game changer when it comes to elevating your look. A highly recommend every woman have a strapless bra, convertible bra, and pasties so you can be prepared for any outfit!

All of these are common mistakes that can potentially cheapen your look. Keep these in the back of your mind when shopping and getting dressed so you can avoid any potential frumpy outfits!
