There are two types of people in the world – those who are properly prepared to take on the whirlwind of the holiday season and those who wait until the very last minute. Any given year, I could be either of these depending on my level of busy-ness. However, this 2018 holiday season, I at least want to be prepared by planning my outfits in advanced. Given that it is the season of giving, we often spend a ton of money on loved ones, so budgeting really comes into play. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing tons of tips and suggestions for how to survive the chaos of the holidays plus tons of gift guides. But for today, I’ll kick off this series with my tips on how to dress for the holidays on a budget without sacrificing style.

Glam Holiday

For those who like to spend their holidays on the elegant side, go for a dress that fits the occasion. With a little bit of searching, it’s possible to find elegant, head turning dresses for less than $120.Velvet, satin, or sequin dresses always infuse a bit more festivity into your look, but if you want to opt for another LBD, go for one with unique details such as an asymmetrical hemline, lace, puff sleeves, etc. Places like Asos, H&M, and Nastygal can cover you in this department. Sometimes, you can even make an old dress look new by adding blingy accessories like statement earrings or metallic heels.

Casual Holiday

If your family or friends prefer to have more casual holiday get togethers, there are an abundance of outfit options. You can stick with the classics like a cute blouse with your favorite jeans or wear something cozy such as a sweater dress or turtleneck. It isn’t always necessary to wear brand new pieces. Don’t feel embarrassed to pull out that old chunky sweater and pair it with relevant knee high boots. But if you must snag something new, Forever 21 is one of my go-to resources for affordable, trend-savvy fashion pieces under $30.

Work Holiday

Work related events can be a little trickier to style for because you have dress codes to adhere to. However, dressing office-appropriate and festive on a budget is totally achievable. The key here is to not go too overboard and to stick to one festive hero piece like a red blouse tucked into metallic trousers, sequin pencil skirt, tartan plaid dress, and so forth. Additionally, you could channel some holiday spirit into your accessories. Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, and Mango are some of my favorite affordable places to go for holiday work attire.

This time of year makes me so incredibly happy! As I mentioned earlier, we tend to spend a lot more too so it is imperative to save whenever possible. Take advantage of these affordable retail options to get your holiday outfits prepped and ready for all your upcoming events. Happy shopping!
