January is technically the star of the new month, new year and new decade – so what better time to get started on improving yourself then now? I hate to throw around the word “resolution” because I often feel this can get abused as many people make these exclamations but don’t end up sticking to them after a few months into the year. However, I do support the desire to make new goals and lifestyle changes for yourself. Personally, I am always seeking ways to better my personal growth for myself and others around me. To help you get inspired to achieve your 2020 goals, I am sharing my own resolutions and how I plan on achieving them!

As part of my goals last year, I really wanted to put extra drive into my career and I feel pretty good about what I accomplished. However, there is always room for improvement in any situation, so I want 2020 to be an even more productive year. I will continue to use task apps to keep me motivated and on track for the day-to-day business.

Recently, I have also discovered that motivational podcasts (School of Business, Girl Boss, to name a few) have been providing a lot of inspiration in terms of furthering my career. I love listening to stories of successful people and how they managed to build upon what they love. I highly recommend giving a new podcast a chance this year to increase your focus.

Prioritizing Family Time

Family continues to be the number one priority in my life, so I want to ensure I am doing everything to be the best mother and wife I can be. In 2020, I want to cut back on my work travel, increase family vacations/staycations and go on more dates with my husband. Family always comes first and I really want to make sure 2020 and the years beyond it reflect that.

To achieve this or anything else you might have in mind, it’s essential to learn how to say “no” and ignore “FOMO”. Too often, I see people getting caught up in doing “what’s fun” rather than what they should be doing. In other words, scaling back on hanging with friends, going clubbing, or mindlessly watching Netflix will take you far in a year.

Health is Wealth

Along with furthering my social relationships, I also want to improve my relationship with myself. I feel like this comes down to implementing practices that are a struggle for me, like working out more, meditating, eating better, taking vitamins and focusing on my mental health.

One key activity that is sure to help you achieve your 2020 goals is meditating, visualizing, and journaling – which also happens to be something I want to improve on. Setting just 10 minutes aside every morning and every night for one or two of those activities are so empowering and can really set you up for success daily.

Knowledge is Power

Additionally, I want to foster my curiosity this year. As much as I pride myself on keeping up with the latest trends and ins-and-outs of the fashion industry, I find my knowledge in other important areas is lacking. For example, this year is critical because it is an election year. I intend on keeping myself enlightened and informed by paying attention to current events, reading more books and investing time in learning about the things I am interested in. After all, knowledge is truly power.

Keeping up with the news can be daunting because most of it is far from ideal these days. However, that doesn’t change the dynamic of our world. Resources like The Skimm make it easier to live smarter and keep up with current events.

Sustainability Counts

Lastly, sustainability continues to be a topic of hot conversation. Along with supporting more sustainably conscious fashion brands, I also want to do my part by shopping more vintage and making sure I am doing all I can to lengthen the life of my clothing and things. On top of that, I want to work on lifestyle changes like using less plastic and shopping more locally. This not only helps reduce your footprint but it forces you to live mindfully too and will translate positively into every aspect of your life.

With these goals in mind, I know 2020 is going to be a year of improvement and growth. What are your goals for the new year?
