Yes, it’s finally started to feel like fall, but you don’t have to put those summer pieces away just yet! I’m going to be sharing a few of my go-to styling tips that will show you how to transition summer pieces into fall and winter. Whether it’s that bodysuit you picked up late in the summer or that crop top you wore year round, you’ll learn the layering tips that will allow you to wear these pieces all winter long.

Although it isn’t always easy to pull off a revealing summer piece in the fall and winter, there are times you can make them relevant – and get away with them. Here’s what they are.

Sleeveless Dress: Add a turtleneck

The easiest way to wear your favorite sleeveless dress (i.e. slip dress) once colder weather rolls around is to slip on a thin turtleneck underneath. This isn’t anything new, but it’s a classic styling trick that everyone needs to know and try at least once. Play with colors and textures to get the most eye-catching results.

Denim Jacket: Add cropped sweater

Denim jackets are evocative of dusky summer evenings, but you can transition them into fall by tossing a cropped sweater underneath. This combination works right now since the weather isn’t exactly cold at the moment; however, even once the temps drop, you can remedy the situation with a teddy or fur coat.

Bodysuits: Add wool trousers

You may have gotten used to wallowing around in your bodysuit and denim cutoffs all summer long – and now you’re clueless on what to do with them… Your solution: wool trousers – the quick fix to making everything fall appropriate. The skintight, fitted nature of bodysuits can give the illusion of a polished look with menswear-inspired trousers and a structured blazer.

Floral Maxi Dresses: Add boots & jacket

Florals are trending hard right now, so it’s a great idea to bring your floral maxi dresses into fall. Go ahead and add slouchy boots and a suede jacket for boho feels. For a more polished look, try a leather jacket and sleek stiletto boots. The combinations here are endless – all you have to consider is your outerwear and footwear options and you’re set.

Bustier: Add a button-down.

If you’ve invested in too many bustiers, bralettes, or crop tops to just stash them away, slip one over an oversized button-down, then throw on a pair of cropped flare jeans or a distressed boyfriend fit and mules. It’s an outfit that’s perfect for casual Fridays at the office.

Mini Skirt: Add pants

While wearing mini skirts with over-the-knee boots is the obvious resolution, why not try something out of the ordinary like adding a pair of flared trousers or jeans underneath it? It’s a modern look that allows you to flex your layering muscles and play with proportions. When styled properly, you can exude the energy of a true street style star.
