Sometimes, I find that the best trends are those re-emerging from the past. Last year, I covered my favorite vintage trends in a three-part series (which you can review here, here, and here) – and it turns out there are a few more to add to the list this season. Between the 60s through the 90s, I can’t decide which era I love best, but being able to fuse them all into one outfit today is so exciting. Several of these trends feel a bit nostalgic for me, so I’m just glad to be able to pick up where I left off. Scroll down to see the best old school fashion trends I’ve been obsessed with.

Fleece Jacket

If you’re paying any attention to Instagram or retailers right now, you’ll notice the hefty influx of fleece jackets. I recently added this style to my list of must-have fall jackets – but it also happens to be one of my favorite old school fashion trends. I like to bundle up when the temperatures dip, so this cuddly, fashionable piece will stay at the forefront of my wardrobe.

Cargo

When asked to describe my personal style, the few words that come to mind are spontaneous and eclectic. I hate confining myself to something so specific, which is why you often see me wearing so many different looks. One trend that I have been a long-time fan of are cargo pants because they’re such a masculine piece that can be softened or made edgier. The voluminous shape can be balanced out with a feminine heel or taken further with an aviator coat. What do you guys think about this trend?

Slip Skirts

Slip dresses might have been the conversation starter of the last few seasons, but it’s all about the slip skirt now. This was a trend so loved in the 90s – I can re-imagine all the celebrities notorious rocking them from the Olsen twins to Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman. Pair them with everything from chunky knits to oversized jackets and cowboy boots as I did here.

Leather Jacket

Although one might argue that a leather jacket is a wardrobe staple, I think we can all agree that it’s been pushed out of the spotlight for a while, being replaced by shearling moto jackets. This fall, leather jackets are more relevant than ever, but rather than trying a traditional fitted leather jacket, go all out with a trench. It adds the perfect edgy touch to an evening look – and provides serious statement-making authority with jeans.

Mid Calf Boots

Mid-calf boots can be one tricky style to pull off since they cut the leg off at a weird (and unflattering) spot. So, for the leg conscious, your best bet is to tuck your jeans or leggings into a pair of scrunchy boots. If you’re wearing a western-inspired style, you can’t go wrong with a denim on denim ensemble. Otherwise, I love styling mine with sweater dresses, mini skirts, and a huge winter coat.
