As we transition into fall, it’s time to start thinking about how we can stretch the summer items in our wardrobes and continue wearing them into the cooler weather. These are pieces like sleeveless jumpsuits, biker shorts and floral dresses among others. During this transitional period, which usually lasts through the entire month of September, all you need is a handful of pieces to help reinvent the items you already own. If you’re looking to save some money in the process without sacrificing style, Walmart is the perfect place to start. I’ve made quite the wardrobe update with Walmart items in a matter of weeks and wanted to share with you the affordable ways you can transition your summer wardrobe to fall.

1. Add a leather jacket

Layering is key during transitional periods, and there’s nothing as versatile as a leather moto jacket. Whether you wear it over that summer romper or a floral dress, your outfit will feel fall-ready. Try playing with colored-leather like beige or white to switch things up. This Scoop moto jacket from Walmart is slightly cropped and looks amazing with so many different outfits.

2. Wear tall boots

For a trendier look, you can transition your summer wardrobe to fall by adding boots. Baggy pants tucked into knee-high boots are one of my favorite looks of the season. You can recreate this look by tucking your trousers, sweatpants, or knit jumpsuits into a pair of tall white boots. The pair I’m wearing is really affordable and has a structured shaft, which is going to be huge this fall.

3. Layer on knitwear

You can always resort to the usual layered knitwear look too. Just remember to play with trendier styles like cardigans or sweater coats. An oversized fit will breathe life into anything from mini dresses to flared jeans. Get creative with your knits this season and experiment with adding belt bags as well as juxtaposing textures.

4. Incorporate texture

The best thing about fall is all the new textures you get to play with. Some of my favorites are snakeskin, croc-embossed, and fuzzy feels, like shearling and chenille. I came across this faux sherpa jacket and though it was perfect for every casual outfit – even if you’re just wearing leggings. You can also just add this furry handbag for the coziest fall feels.

How have you guys started to transition your summer wardrobe to fall?
