It’s officially summer guys – and with that comes a slew of opportunities to get dressed and go out. From Cannes to countless brand events that have already taken place this year, it’s no secret that I’m constantly gearing myself up for a nerve-wracking evening. Over the years, I’ve definitely learned a thing or two about getting ready, so I wanted to dish out all my tips on how to prepare for a big night out. I’m sure you guys have lots of weddings and summer soirees coming up, so scroll ahead and learn how you can look your best.

1. Hydrate all day & eat right

I’ll admit, I’m not the best at drinking water, but it’s especially important to hydrate throughout the day before a big event. You’ll just feel so much better. Oftentimes events are so hectic and alcohol is more accessible than water, so it’s easy to feel miserable by the end of the night. There have been too many times that I wish I drank more water. If your anxiety goes through the roof, then I also recommend sipping on some herbal tea during the day to pacify the nerves.

Pro Tip: Make sure you eat a high-protein meal or snack before heading out because honestly, those small appetizers and dessert trays never cut it. If bloating is a concern, then stay away from sugar and carbonated drinks.

2. Skincare Prep

Days Prior Prep

When I know I have a big event coming up, I take extra care of my skin. A week before the big night, I’ll go get a facial to extract all build up that’s been seeping in my skin. This usually helps a ton with breakouts. Then, two days before the big night, I’ll exfoliate my face, body, and lips as this helps get dead skin off and keeps things nice and smooth.

Current Day Prep

Skincare-wise, keep it simple and stick to products that work and you know won’t irritate your skin because allergic reactions and breakouts are no fun! The key products I incorporate into my routine for special occasions are gel masks for the eyes (because they’re cooling and feel amazing), luxury face masks, and a good moisturizer. If you have a bit of time to spare, toss a jade roller in the freezer and spend some time rolling once the face or sheet mask comes off.

There are a lot of things I love to do when I have time – like paint my nails and curl my hair. But for a big night out where lots of photos will be taken, I recommend leaving it to the pros. This way, you know you’re not going to mess anything up. I’ll also get a proper manicure and pedicure the day of the event so I don’t have to worry about chipped nails (be sure to get gel polish on the hands). Refer back to this post here for my favorite beauty services. But if you must DIY, I rounded up some of my favorite tools and products below.

4. Wardrobe

As far as what to wear, stay away from anything that makes you feel restricted or uncomfortable. If you can’t walk around in it at home, you’re definitely not going to pull it off in a public space. That being said, it’s not every day that you get dress to the nines. So when the occasion comes up, feel free to play with sequins, crystal accents, and bold colors. Always lay out your outfit the night before so you know exactly where everything is. I also recommend getting dressed before you start on your makeup. Be sure to throw on a robe so you don’t get product on your clothes too.
