Spring is so close – I can almost taste it. As much as I love layering, I always start dreaming about the next season’s fashion early. Which brings me to today’s topic – 2022 resort trends. Not going to lie, they are already mentally whisking me off to some tropical destination thanks to their collective care-free vibe and youthful energy. I am one to always get ahead of the game so I already started shopping for these looks so I am prepared as soon as the first sign of spring happens to crop up. It is always better to get ahead so you are not left in the dust, especially with the ephemeral nature of fashion. Let’s work together on prepping your wardrobe for spring too. Ethereal White Dresses

Taking a page directly from the bridal fashion week, there was a plethora of dreamy white dresses in this year’s resort wear trends. With so many weddings pushed back from the pandemic, I guess the desire to wear all white naturally creeped into current trends and I happen to think it goes hand-in-hand with resort. A flowy white dress feels like a breath of fresh air, which is ideal for an escapist beach vacation or even as a welcome nod to the return of spring. It takes gusto to wear a pure white number, so I think this look will blow up before you can even say resort wear twice.

Movement

I truly think the essence of resort wear is just the general desire to bring the fun back into fashion. Oftentimes, these collections are where designers like to get a little bit more creative and bold than their standard FW and SS looks. As exhibit A, one of the resort 2022 trends I am most excited for is the heavy use of fringe and feather to create interesting movement within an outfit. We saw a preview of this in the holiday season and lucky for us, it has stuck around. This is a fun detail that you can add to your bold spring looks and it is even better when you can sport fringe or feather with some bright colors.

Elevated Shorts

Say ta-ta to your basic cut-off denim shorts this season and replace them with a style that is more elevated. Tailored shorts are the new “it” pants according to recent resort wear trends – think bermuda style shorts, shortened bermuda shorts, and drawstring waist shorts. Do not get it twisted though. Although this new short is more polished, it can easily be styled for both dressy and more casual settings. This is definitely a look that will dominate the next few months, so better to get ahead and stock up on the trend before it becomes mainstream.

Varsity Team

Although we are dressing up more post-pandemic, there is still a big push for clothes that are comfortable for those who want to find the middle ground of dressing up and going out but still being cozy enough for WFH. That is why the athleisure trend is another aesthetic that is front and center in current resort wear. The vibe for spring 2022 can be directly translated to oversized tracksuit jackets paired with

mini-skirts or cropped corsets styled with a pair of loose, nylon trousers. There is a fine line between workout gear and fashion and it continues to get more blurred with each season.

Black & White

With designers putting greater emphasis on new neutrals as well as punchy, bright colors, the other colorway trend that seems to be a big part of resort wear 2022 is the sophisticated combination of black and white. This is a timeless duo that is getting the modern facelift by being incorporated into more graphic patterns like contrasting polka dots and bold stripes. The natural contrast between these two colorways makes for a really striking look that will make heads turn this spring.
