I know we have been discussing the trend forecast for the spring season, but I do want to jump ahead a little bit for today’s post. Let’s think about summer, shall we? Besides, retail is always ahead of the curve, so I wanted to discuss 2018’s swimwear trends. There are so many bathing suits already on the market so might as well grab it while we can before it is too late! If you haven’t got the slightest clue on what to look for, I’m sharing five of my favorite stylish swimsuit trends to know below.

This year, swimwear is focused on simple cuts and designs. There is definitely a greater focus on solids than extremely busy patterns. Some of the trending swimsuit colors will be neutrals, earthy tones, and pastels. There is less focus on hardware details and more on soft details such as knots and ruffles. That being said, let’s get right into my favorite stylish swimsuit trends you need by summer.

Belted One Piece

Accessorizing your bathing suit? Yes, it is totally a thing and one of the best trends for 2018 swimwear in my opinion! First of all, it adds such a chic element to the look. Secondly, it emphasizes the smallest part of your waist and accentuates your curves in all of the right places. Many of these suits have a belt attached, but you can also DIY it. Simply tie a long, thin scarf around the small of your waist for a unique look. Add a large floppy hat and you have achieved an effortless, retro vibe!

One Shoulder Suits

Asymmetrical continues to trend, even in swimwear! There are loads of amazing options in the form of bikinis and one piece swimsuits. I love this trend because of its modern twist on classic designs. From clean, minimal lines to prints and ruffle accents, there are so many options for the one-shoulder swimsuit. Whether you’re wanting a two or one piece, you have both at your discretion. Not to mention, the one piece swimwear double as chic bodysuits – two for one! Just slip on some wide legged pants or culottes and a pair of sandals and you can easily transition your look from beach to nighttime dinner.

Minimalist Bralettes

You cannot get more clean and simple than a minimalist bralette bikini. This style takes it back to the basics with no frills or fuss, but it certainly leaves a lasting impression. This style is so flattering and alluring on anyone. Plus, it is less likely the minimal bikini will go out of style so you can continue to rock it for the next few years without any worry. It goes right along with the hot athleisure trend so you can even find a sporty printed piece if that’s more of your vibe.

Ruffled Shoulder

Maybe the most romantic of swimsuit trends, ruffled shoulder bikinis and one pieces have that demure, feminine touch. If you are looking to transition these pieces into a wearable look, just pop on a denim mini skirt and you have the perfect, trendy summertime outfit. If you’ve racked up enough traditional-style ruffle bikinis from last summer, you can try this year’s newer 3D flower bikinis which resemble the look and feel of ruffles – or just pick one with more volume and structure. I love how ruffles look so romantic and feminine with braided hair or a bun! Don’t forget your straw accessories.

Smocked Tops

I recall wearing smocked dresses as a little girl so it’s funny to see this detail sneaking up on me again. It’s such a great style to add to your swimwear collection because the elastic material makes it so easy to wear. I’m obsessed with the comfort and the stretch. It feels less restrictive than your traditional swimsuit fabrics.

Pick a tube top or one with spaghetti or ruffle straps and you have yourself a fun beachy outfit with some denim cutoffs or a mini skirt. Smocked detailing always adds a touch of youth! They look super cute with slides, espadrilles, and sneakers!
